 Book Blogger Hop

This week’s question is: “What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked?  Which have you disliked?”

MY ANSWER:

Usually, I like books better than their film adaptations. However, I really liked Charlotte Gray (2001). This was the one film I can think of I liked better than the book. Sebastian Faulks’ writing is wonderful but I liked the film better. The film is consistent with the book, apart from the ending, which is on my opinion more realistic in the film as far as Charlotte is concerned (it helps that it is happier in a way, too). I saw the film before reading the book, so maybe this is why I liked it better.

As far as the book-to-movie adaptation I disliked, well, as I said, as a rule I like books better. To give an example, and a notorious one recently, the Twilight films are horrible, and progressively so. The first one was all right, but than each got worse. I think it is because they are too teenage audience oriented.

  1. I haven't heard of Charlotte Gray. But your post made me remember another adaptation I liked, that I even liked better than the book-- What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I watched and read long ago and forgot about them. The hop is nice for jarring the brain cells. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. After watching the first Twilight film I thought that was 2 hours of my life I'm never going to get back. Then I forgot how bad it was and watched the second which was worse!

  7. Re-posting my comment: Charlotte Gray is a World War II themed novel about British aiding the French resistance. Both the novel and the film are great, focusing on the heroine who volunteers to be dropped by a parachute into the occupied France to find her shot-down RAF pilot boyfriend. The film stars always excellent Cate Blanchet in the lead role.

  8. I prefer books, and try to steer clear of most film adaptations.
I am looking forward to seeing what they did with The Help

  9. Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm a new follower. I've never read or seen the movie Charlotte Grey, but I like WWII novels. This one reminds me of that novel by Mal Peet -- can't think of the name of it right now....

  10. I haven't heard of Charlotte Gray, but I usually prefer book adaptations more, too. :) This is only when I read the book first. If I see the movie first, then read the book I tend to like the book more, but I can still enjoy the film. Some films just need to draw more from the books, i.e. Beastly, since the directors take too much artistic license. Thank you for visiting and have a nice weekend! :)
