Booking Through Thursday – Own or Borrow?

 btt button

All things being equal (money, space, etc), would you rather own copies of the books you read? Or borrow them?

Considering all the things are not equal, I borrow most of the books I read. I buy only the books I really love and the books which I know I will keep rereading. Sometimes, it happens that I first read a borrowed book and then I love it so much that I go and buy it.

However, if money and space were not the issue, I would be buying much more books I do now. I enjoy to be surrounded by the books I love.

It is quite a coincidence, this week's question comes right as I am on the lookout for some additional bookshelves (which would suffice for next few years, I think).

  1. I definitely prefer owning books, I too, love be surrounded by my books. I just recently added a new bookcase in my reading corner. Now the piles of books are on the bookshelf.

  3. Owning a book gives you more time with it.

  5. I also find myself wanting to buy the books that I've borrowed and fallen in love with. Though, I have to say I like leaving my books stacked up on the floor - not sure where I got that from, but the disorder brings some strange form of comfort.

  6. Great answer! I'm the same way, in which I like to own books. All the better for re-reading them! :)

    Nice blog!

  8. I’m a big re-reader so I like to own my books but I've got way too many now and I am running out of room.

  10. You're so right - if money wasn't an issue, I'd probably own every single book that I loved! Well, that and if only I have space for all of them.

But realistically, it's much better to borrow from the library. It saves, seriously! But if I really am in love with the book I have to get it to own it.

  13. I think as heavy duty readers who love books, most of us really will be 'owners' especially if space and money weren't issues. It's our hobby, our interest, of course we would want to be surrounded by the things we love!

  14. I agree with you on the money part. If money isn't an issue, my whole house would probably be filled with books! But as it is, I have to carefully pick the books I buy.

  16. I agree, some books you really have to own, others are fine to borrow.
